J S Bach B minor Mass

Performed on Saturday 18th March 2017 at The Tithe Barn, Haselbury Mill, Crewkerne

Fifty Glorious Years

For the celebratory concert marking fifty glorious years since the foundation of the South Somerset Choral Society, and marking the fact that it has brought the finest choral music to the musical public of the area for that period, it was a pretty easy choice to make to perform one of the all-time great pieces of music by probably the all-time greatest composer – J S Bach's monumental “Mass in B Minor” (BWV232)

The product of decades of work and completed in his last years, Bach's genius has provided us with music which is by turns lyrical and tender, complex and subtle and splendid and celebratory. It is music that is massively varied – full of excitement and interest and, of course as we celebrate all that the SSCS has done over the last fifty years, we look forward to doing the same for the next fifty!
