  SOLOISTS

Amy Carson - Soprano

Amy Carson began her singing career as a girl chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, and went on to study at Trinity College, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. 

Amy sings with many of the UKs leading ensembles and enjoys appearing regularly as a soloist on the concert platform. Her solo performances include Bach St Matthew Passion and Cantatas in the Barbican, the Royal Albert Hall and Snape Maltings. Recent opera performances include performing Galatea with Music for Awhile in Somerset, singing chorus in Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini in Versailles and the Proms, Monteverdi’s Orfeo and Vespers in venues across Europe with Sir John Eliot Gardiner. 

In recent years she has also been performing regularly with The Sixteen, ORA, Solomon’s Knot, The OAE. Recent recordings include two new exciting recordings choral works by James Macmillan with ORA and The Sixteen and featuring on Nick Cave’s new album Carnage.

Charlotte Tetley: Mezzo soprano

Charlotte studied Music and Education at Homerton College, Cambridge where she sang with Trinity College Choir. After graduating she became a primary school teacher in London for 2 years. She then studied vocal studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London followed by Opera Studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow. After graduating Charlotte went to Glyndebourne for the next two years as a member of the chorus in both the Festival and Touring Opera. 

Charlotte is a keen lieder, recital and oratorio singer; she has performed as part of the ‘Leeds Lieder’ festival and is a Creer and Samling Scholar. She has performed Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the Oxford Sinfonia and recitals at both the Dorchester and Holt Festivals. She sings regularly with the Orchestra of St. John’s under John Lubbock OBE. Recent performances have included the St. John and Matthew Passions, Handel’s Messiah, Respighi’s Il Tramonto and the Vivaldi Gloria amongst others.

Charlotte lives in Hampshire with her 4 children and is taught by Christine Cairns.

DAVID DE WINTER – Tenor

Described as “of silvery voice” by Gramophone Magazine, David de Winter  was born in Surrey and trained as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral before studying music at Durham University and voice at the Royal Academy of Music.  In the 2019 Handel Singing Competition, he won the Selma D and Leon Fischbach Memorial Award.

As a soloist, venues have included The Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, The Tempelliaukio Church, Helsinki, Palau de la Musica, Barcelona and Centre Georges Pompidou and broadcasts on BBC radio and television across Europe.  In collaboration with the UK’s & Europe’s leading early music ensembles, such as the AAM, OAE, Early Opera Company, Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Instruments of Time & Truth, The English Concert, Solomon’s Knot and The Brook Street Band, his repertoire has ranged from Rameau & Purcell to Bach & Handel.

David’s recordings of Purcell Odes with The King's Consort were shortlisted for the 2021 & 2022 Gramophone Awards and In 2022 he released an album, Adorna, with Opus Anglicanum and jazz pianist Jason Rebello.  His debut solo disc in collaboration with The Brook Street Band: Heinrich Schütz – A German in Venice was released in April 2024 on First Hand Records, receiving rave reviews from BBC Music Magazine, Diapason and Gramophone Magazine.  David is a core member of EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble and Artistic Director of the vocal ensemble Opus Anglicanum.


Timothy Dickinson - Bass- Baritone

Bass-Baritone Timothy Dickinson enjoys a diverse performing career, ranging from concerts with Ensembles around the world to Operatic roles at Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera, Loughborough and elsewhere.

Timothy is also very active as an Oratorio soloist embracing a broad repertoire including Bach's Passsions, the Requiiems of Brahms, Verdi, Faure and Durufle, and Haydn's Creation. As well as being a member of the BBC Singers, Timothy has also worked with the Sixteen, Dunedin Consort, the Monteverdi Choir and Polyphony, among others. Additionally, he has enjoyed a deeply rewarding association with the education department of the OAE, engaging with young people across the country. In 2023, along with the soprano Amy Carlson, he founded The Echoing AIr,  a new  ensemble for the south west of England.

Bob Chilcott Singing Day:  Sat 15 October 2022


.It was something of a special day for the South Somerset Choral Society to have Bob Chilcott come and lead a ‘singing day’ at St Peter & St Paul’s church, South Petherton last month. About 100 singers from several local choirs (and none) tackled Bob’s recent work “Gloria” and his brand new (and very appropriate for October) “The Song of Harvest”. 

Bob’s works are tuneful and lyrical, easy on the ear though still quite challenging for the singers. But a super stab they made of it in the informal concert at the end of the day. The church itself – its inspiring interior and its excellent acoustics - certainly made a contribution to the success of the day too.
